4872 Wean to Finish Pig Mat

Besides being great for creep feeding, the 4' x 6' high-density polyethylene Wean to Finish Pig Mats are non-conductive and act as a barrier between the pig and the cold floor. Pigs that are cold and chilled use the creep feed they eat to keep warm because they do not have any fat; consequently they do not gain weight. The greater the heat loss, the more creep feed it will take to offset that loss and produce gains. It is important to note that for every day a nursery pig is stressed, one more day is added on the finishing floor. 4872 Wean to Finish Pig Mats will help the pigs to stay warm, dry, and healthy. This, in turn, can reduce the number of days on the finishing floor for your pig.

4' x 6' PIG MAT REDUCES EXPENSIVE FEED WASTE AND PIG MORTALITY

Producers in wean-to-finish hog facilities utilize pig mats on top of their cement slats to reduce drafts on little pigs and as a feeding platform to hand feed pigs following weaning to encourage feed intake. Double L's 4872 Wean-to-Finish Pig Mat helps improve your pigs comfort, environment, health, and productivity by keeping nursery pigs warm and dry while avoiding diseases, all of which helps to get your pigs off to a fast start. Our 4' x 6' Welcome Mats have a unique design that allows the nursery pigs to lay on the elevated surface and stay dry, helping to insulate the little pigs from cold weather drafts and the cold concrete slats.

Feeding newly weaned pigs on Double L's 4' x 6' Wean-to-Finish Pig Welcome Mat is an important step in maximizing feed intake and early growth performance. Creep feed stays in the 1/8" deep oval indentations and keeps the little pigs from moving it around, helping to reduce expensive creep feed waste. Each 4872 Welcome Mat with Feed Lip and Handles has a 1 ¼” raised feed lip height that keeps creep feed on the mats and reduces the amount of creep feed that passes through the concrete slats. This is a big advantage over smooth or biodegradable hog boards. Easier to handle than rubber mats, Double L polyethylene 4' x 6' Pig Mats have handles and are lightweight for ease of carrying, transport, and storage. Each mat accommodates approximately 50 pigs. For increased biosecurity measures, Double L's 4' x 6' Hog Mat is easily pressure washed clean.

Besides being great for creep feeding, the 4' x 6' high-density polyethylene Wean to Finish Pig Mats are non-conductive and act as a barrier between the pig and the cold floor. Double L's 4' x 6 Wean-to-Finish Hog Mat is constructed of plastic polyethylene, which does not breakdown over time like the biodegradable mats or harbor diseases like rubber mats.

Double L's hog mat keeps pigs healthy, improves animals comfort, and increases pigs productivity. Pigs that are cold and chilled use the creep feed they eat to keep warm because they do not have any fat; consequently they do not gain weight. The greater the heat loss, the more creep feed it will take to offset that loss and produce gains. Tests conducted (see below testing) confirmed producers using these mats can use up to 36% less energy to maintain a pig's body temperature versus a pig lying on a concrete floor. It is important to note that for every day a nursery pig is stressed, one more day is added on the finishing floor. 4872 Wean to Finish Pig Mats will help the pigs to stay warm, dry, and healthy. This, in turn, can reduce the number of days on the finishing floor for your pig.

Thermal Comfort for Little Pigs in Cold Wean-to-Finish Barn

Tests conducted by Double L show that producers using the 4' x 6' Wean-to-Finish Pig Mat can use 36% less energy to maintain the pig's body temperature (105 degrees) versus a pig lying on a concrete floor.

Two boxes, 12" x 12" x 12" high, were made using 1 1/2" thick insulation board, leaving the top and bottom of the box open. Lined with 3 mil plastic and filled with water, two identical heating probes were used to heat the water to 105 degrees. One box was placed on a concrete floor and the other box was placed on the 4' x 6' Welcome Hog Mat on a concrete floor. When temperature of water reached 105 degrees, the usage of kilowatts to maintain temperature in two boxes was documented during the winter months.

In a 17-hour span, the box on the plastic mat used 1.15 KwH while box directly on the concrete used 1.8 KwH. Results showed that a pig lying on the 4' x 6' Wean-to-Finish Hog Mat used 36% less energy to maintain its body temperature (105 degrees F) when compared to a pig lying on the concrete floor.

EASIER TO HANDLE THAN RUBBER HOG MATS

Whether you prefer to store your pig mats away on a ceiling shelf or hang them on a wall, the 4872 Wean to Finish Pig Mat's handles allow for easy transport and storage. Though very durable, the 4872 Wean-to-Finish Pig Mats are lightweight for ease of carrying to desired location. The Ceiling Mat Rack on left holds approximately 15 hog mats.
